BOOMERANG LUNCHES START TODAY - EVERY WEDNESDAY

Every Wednesday starting March 29, Holy Family will be implementing the Green initiative of Boomerang lunches. By initiating a waste-free, boomerang lunch program, our school will continue to strive at attaining Gold Eco status. It is also an initiative to work with families to support the environment and significantly reduce food and packaging waste.

How do boomerang lunch programs help families?

Perhaps your child never eats the grapes you send and always has half a sandwich left? Boomerang lunch programs help families save money by seeing which of the food being sent each day has actually been eaten. This will allow you to cut down on your family’s avoidable food waste. Food that is edible but is being thrown out.  Students are asked to bring a litterless lunch to school every Wednesday. Any garbage that students have will be sent back home with them. Students will still be able to use the recycling bins on these days, but we hope that most students will use reusable containers instead of single serving packages for items such as applesauce or yogurt. Did you know that it is actually cheaper to buy a larger jar of applesauce than it is to buy single serving packages?

WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT ~ FROM THE ECO GREEN TEAM AT HOLY FAMILY!
